Draken Harald Hårfagre has crossed the North Atlantic and landed at St. Anthony Newfoundland yesterday. Uff da!

The captain and crew said the Greenland to Newfoundland leg was the most challenging of the voyage with very cold conditions, ever shifting winds, fog, and icebergs.

This route taken from Norway to the American continent has traced the path taken by Leif Erickson over a thousand years ago.

Terry,

Being my wife is of Norwegian descent on her mother's side (family names of Lund and Sonstenghaughen), I'm familiar with the term "Uff Da"! Thought it was funny that it would show up here!

Hello George,

I know Lunds here in Chicago but I have never met a Sonstenghaughen. That’s a great name and I like how it just kinda rolls off the end of the tongue.

I skied for many years with the Viking Ski Club and we make an annual trip to Vail. After a long downhill run, once at the bottom of the mountain, it's common to hear a chorus of ‘’Uff da!” waft up out of the valley.

Yeah I been working on my Norwegian.
I’m able to say the ships name “Dragon Harald Fairhair” pretty good in Norwegian now but still have some time to work on it before they arrive in July.

Draken Harald Hårfagre

Can you say it? - Drɑːken Hɑːrald Hoːrfagrɛ

I have an invitation to attend the reception at Navy Pier for the Tall Ships Captains and Crew and I am sure their English will be better than my Norwegian.

Thanks,
Terry
