Hello all,

Mama Mia! is prepped and ready for her new coat.

Many hours of filling the low spots and sanding down the high spots but I got her all smoothed out and I’m ready to shoot some coats.

Got two coats down and I’m thinking a few more and then the final coat with the hi-gloss additive which also acts as the surfacing agent. So far I’m liking it.

Making great progress on Mama Mia’s! new coat.

We laid down another 6-7 coats today and have good coverage now. The key is to put on enough so you don’t sand through.

Taking a different tack and slowly introduced the high gloss additive, on top of the virgin gel coat, first at 15% then 25% and finished with 50:50 blend.

The orange peel will sand out and then I can always add another hi gloss coat if needed. The hi gloss also adds a translucent effect where you can see through it to the base coats.

Folks, it will soon be time to put on your sunglasses.

Gonna put on the sheer stripe while the gel cures and then get to wet sanding.

Thanks,
Terry

You sure have plenty of orange peel, means a lot of wet sanding, had my share of it.

Yeah Eddie and you know there aint no getting around it.

I look at the wet sanding as a bit like sculpting.
You start with a rough block like this.

Then you finish with a beauty like this.

Thanks,
Terry

When we had to re-spray a part, we would thin down the gel-coat and add liquid wax, very little orange-peel.
