I think the boat is much smaller than an Avalon. Note the lack of "handles" on the stern and the wraparound rub rail. My guess would be a Balboa. The small car and the kids make it look bigger than it is IMHO.

JR you are on the money.
Looked closer and like you said it’s too small for an Avalon. Looked at the Marathon and the transom is different so I googled Balboa and found the same picture with this description.

John & Charlie with the Dauphine & Glasspar Balboa at the Salinas River, Moss Landing

And MRHO455 is dead on calling the Renault a Dauphine.

Guessing this some time later when they upgraded to the Avalon. (Sometimes I get confused)

Thanks,

Now for the rest of the story. I’ve been in contact with Charlie who is the bigger guy in the Balboa photo and he had more pictures to share.
My confusion wtih the caption was his Dad upgraded to a new Avalon in 61 with the Merc which in the picture above looks like the 78A or the 700.

The 700 was replaced with a 450 in around 1963 according to Charlie.

Looks like these folks had a lota fun in that ole Glasspar.

Great story Terry. :) The '61 Avalon was the first year of the re-designed hull with a cutaway forefoot for a "sleeker" look and modern back-to-back seating. It does look like the family enjoyed themselves in both Glasspar boats.
