All hulls were gel-coated in white, the decks were gel coated, Red, Blue, Glasspar Green and Yellow, the wind shield on the Avalon was not gel-coated at that time when I was still working at the production plant in Santa Ana.

Good post -JR,

Great information and you raise some interesting questions.

Love the googlie eyed Avalons which gained fame back in the 50’s with a starring role in “Glasspar Zombies”

Our friend Bill has a nice original 57 Avalon that is in need of restoration.

Not sure but I assume this would be considered the standard transom.

And in 59 price page I believe if you optioned for the full transom then you would also need the motor bracket. The idea of the full transom is it added room in the cockpit by moving the motor further aft.

It looks like this Avalon has the full transom and motor bracket.

The Del Mar has the standard transom.

Thanks,
Terry

Thanks Terry,

Even needing restoration that early avalon is the best looking one I have seen. What a unique stern light! Is that a Lucite rod with the light down inside the hull? B) And that Glasspar Zombies clip is also one of my favorite videos.

Hello –JR,

That Avalon was a give away boat here in IL and King Oscar was able to pick it up and find it a home with our friend Bill Satler. It has some relatively minor hull issues that need to be patched but she is all there. Bill also has a Johnson twin setup which will be a perfect match.

And yeah I think that stern lite was what they called the Glo-Stick. Herters 59 is a source for remanufactured copies of the original if you are interested.

How about that great shot of you and your Sunliner on the FG 2016 calendar?

Thanks,
Terry
